It’s the end of the year, a time when we are running on empty. Stress is high, energy is low, crime is high, tolerance is low, the rush to get the final workload dealt with before the holiday season seems to have you in its vice-grip, and you may be facing dilemmas for decisions you need to make before the new year. You lie awake ruminating about what must still be done and what needs to shift. You may be in doubt whether you have the energy to kick this year home or not, and can barely consider facing the new year!
Remember who you are and how powerful you are in your own life! Time to manage yourself wisely. It’s easy. You know this. I’m just reminding you.
You can find the energy if you just STOP for a moment! Breathe.
When you stop physically moving, sit down, put your phone aside, sit still, close your eyes, and just breathe, your brain starts cleaning out the debris, waste toxins, and “filing” information in your memory banks that you need to keep while discarding useless data that is non-essential. You start reconnecting with your true self. Take a moment whether it is on a bench outside, on a log by the big old tree, or just in a private space in your home where you can be comfortable and quiet for a few moments. A place of solitude and serenity. Give yourself this invaluable gift.
Relax your muscles from your head, face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, torso, buttocks, upper legs, lower legs, your feet and toes. Breathe in deeply to the count of 4, sail on the wave of your full lungs for 4 seconds, then exhale for 4 seconds, then sail through the trough of your empty lungs for 4 seconds. Breathe in for 4 seconds, filling our lungs … keep going.
Initially, you will feel this is very manual and forced, but be patient with yourself. Do this until you get into the rhythm of it, and feel your heart rate slow down. Try to hear your heartbeat – your built-in percussion instrument. Consider the miracle of each drumbeat. Come on! Let’s agree. It’s good to be alive, no matter what you are facing. Concentrate on your breathing and bring your mind into the present moment. Breathe and breathe. It’s all good.
Infusing your brain and body with oxygen has a very beneficial physiological effect, but it also reconnects you with your higher self, with the earth, with a much-needed fresh perspective and renewed courage.
No matter how tricky the road ahead looks, you will prevail. You’ve lived so long to get to where you are. Mistakes and all, you are a victor! You WILL cope with tomorrow. Just breathe and feel yourself tapping into your inner power. It is an endless resource, and it’s just for you.
Reconnect. Just breathe…
